Classroom Interventions
1. Individual work stations could be helpful (study carrels)
-Reduces stimulus which may be overwhelming
2. Seating needs to be close to the teacher
- Re-teaching can be done without calling attention to the student
3. Avoid seating student t near high traffic areas
- Creates too much auditory and visual distraction
Teaching Ideas
1. Give as much individualized attention as possible
- Could be given after assignment is given to class and do a check in for understanding
2. Give directions one step at a time. Wait until direction is followed to
next step
- Make your directions short and concise. Avoid wordiness
3. Briefly review materials that were covered on the previous day
- Can be done with a short activity to refresh memory
4. Provide cues before the answer is given
- Maybe provide background information to help
- If student struggles, let them know the answer without making it a big deal
5. Redirect inappropriate behavior rather than discuss it with them
- Try not to draw attention to the misbehavior since this may reinforce the bad behavior or embarrass them
6. Anytime to reinforce self-esteem, please do!!
7. Should write down homework assignments in a designated folder.
- All homework should be written in the same folder.
- Teachers should have assignments for the day in the same place everyday.
- Teachers should check-in everyday to make sure the assignment is written down.
8. Student should be given notes on a daily basis.
- Teacher can have the student copy the notes or just hand them a copy.
- Helpful to have notebook paper and the student can write every other line
9. When inappropriate behavior occurs, tell the student what the expectation is and how it needs to look.
- Could have the entire class model the appropriate behavior
10. Use of visual cues in the classroom. This may minimize drawing attention to student.
11. If there are changes in the routine, let student know ahead of time.
12. Consistent boundaries in the classroom
