Focus Tips
Some tips to help you better utilize the FOCUS program:
- If we show up uninvited, we are there to:
- Observe student action and interaction
- Take data on student behavior
- Develop behavior plans to share with you
- Serve as a silent reminder to our students that they have goals to meet
- If you page us for check-in: we will do just that- we will drop by and observe. Call the student to step out in the hallway if you would like us to speak with them.
- If you call us for a redirect: call the student out to speak to us as soon as we arrive, so that we may have a private conversation and make a plan for an appropriate return to the classroom. We may stay awhile after redirecting.
When we are paged to your classroom, our role is to provide immediate and consistent intervention in the early cycles of inappropriate student behavior. We “debrief” the problem and work with the student to create a plan of action to meet needs in a more appropriate manner.
How you can help:
v Page us before a little problem becomes a BIG problem.
v Make every effort to help students be accountable without being punitive or negative, especially in front of others. We are not punitive, we are therapeutic!!
